Solutions for internal and external parasites

With a deep awareness of the complicated situation we find ourselves in with the COVID-19 pandemic, at Dibaq Aquaculture, we want to emphasise the importance of preventing the fungal, bacterial and parasitic diseases that can occur throughout the different stages of production. Now that spring is here and summer is right around the corner, the water temperatures are starting to rise, and in pathological terms, this means a higher prevalence of both internal and external parasites.

Among the most common internal parasites and those causing the greatest problems for Mediterranean aquaculture production is Enteromyxym spp., which has no effective treatment and causes high mortality rates and economic losses due to its symptoms. The most common external gill parasites include monogeneans such as Sparicotyle, Diplectanum and Furnestinia, which may kill a small, steady number of fish but do not usually have high mortality rates. However, they are a gateway to secondary infections. The most effective treatment is a formalin bath, which often causes high stress for fish, so the drawbacks are almost equal to the benefits.

That’s why at Dibaq Aquaculture, we are working every day to improve, provide for and cover all the nutritional needs of fish, including the necessary natural reinforcements that help to maintain an optimal immune system, thus lowering the risk of parasitic and bacterial problems.

With the formulation of a new product and technology, we aim to offer both internal and external protection against potential pathogens. Along these new lines, we have reinforced our well-known 4Tress®, which helps to prevent internal parasites like Enteromyxum, due to the fact that 4Tress®, a combination of nutraceutical compounds, improves and induces the regeneration of the intestinal epithelium, thus helping to eliminate parasites in the intestinal epithelial cells. Also, 4Tress® improves immunity and prevents potential secondary bacterial infections. Moreover, we have added medium-chain fatty acids, botanical extracts and encapsulated essential oil complexes that provide protection against external parasites, due to a synergistic formulation of their natural compounds with antiparasitic action at the gills, preventing parasitisation and even lowering the parasitic load once the fish become hosts of the parasite.

With this powerful combination, our goal is to offer a product that reinforces and protects, both externally and internally, against the parasites that are common at this time of year.  We recommend using our new product between early spring and summer, when temperatures rise, and the months of October-November, when temperatures drop. It is suitable for any stage of production.
