LIFE BAQUA: banana fibre to combat the use of plastics

The closing event of LIFE BAQUA, a project in which we participated and part of the European Union’s LIFE Environment and Climate Action Programme, was held on October 7. Although it has ended, this initiative continues to make news.

On January 30, the newspaper El País published, in its ‘DALE UNA VUELTA’ section, a video report on LIFE BAQUA and its goal of encouraging the circular economy. This report highlights the possibility of using banana fibre to manufacture biodegradable bags, an innovation that helps crop fields in the Canary Islands reduce the consumption of plastics and reduce the pollution caused by the latter in the ocean.
